The Algerian National Assembly (the Higher Chamber of Parliament) decided today, Thursday, to end the membership of ten of its members after a lottery operation on 20 members representing the new ten states that were added to the new administrative division in the country, while the Constitutional Court announced today the final results of the midterm elections for the National Assembly that took place on March 9.
The National Assembly held a public session, on Thursday, which was devoted to conducting the lottery process to withdraw half of the number of members of the National Assembly elected from the new ten states, where four members of the National Liberation Front, a member of the National Democratic Assembly, a member of the independents and a member of the Peace Society Movement, retained their seats, while five independent members, three members of the National Liberation Front and two other members of the construction and the new dawn lost their seats in The lottery.
The draw took place on the opinion issued by the Constitutional Court on February 5, obligating the authorities to include the elections for the midterm, the new ten states, although the 20 members representing these states, at the rate of two members for each state, did not complete the parliamentary term established constitutionally six years after, when only half of the period passed, which imposed on the National Assembly to adopt the lottery mechanism to withdraw the membership of ten of them, provided that they occupy their seats. Ten new members of these states were elected last Sunday.
In the same context, the President of the Constitutional Court, Omar Belhadj, announced today, Thursday, the final results of the midterm elections for the members of the Algerian National Assembly that took place last Sunday. According to these results, the National Liberation Front party dissolved in the forefront by obtaining 19 seats, followed by the National Democratic Assembly with 14 seats, then the Future Front with ten seats, the independents got six seats, and the National Building Movement and the Peace Society Movement received three seats, and the Socialist Forces Front on two seats, and Algeria’s hope gathered one seat.
Algerian President Abdel Majid Taboun is expected to announce 29 new members who appoint them from among the national competencies and personalities within the presidential third bloc (the number of 58 members appointed by the president) to complete the total members of the Algerian National Assembly, which includes 174 members, and they are distributed over the presidential bloc and a second bloc of members who are elected in a direct vote by members of the local and state councils, at the rate The state of (58 states), half of whom are also renewed every three years, when a custody of six to 58 members expires.
On the other hand, the parliamentary term of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Saleh Kojil, has ended, after the Constitutional Court refused to extend it for another period, and it is expected that Taboun will be appointed as a new president of the council from political figures in the presidential bloc inside the council. It is believed that the former Minister of Justice Rashid Tabi is assigned to the position.
