The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced today, Thursday, that Turkish forces killed 24 Kurdish militants in northern Iraq and Syria last week.
This indicates the continued Turkish attacks on the region, despite the call of the leader of the Kurdistan Workers Party to throw weapons and after an agreement between Damascus and the US -backed Syrian Democratic Forces.
A source in the Turkish Ministry of Defense said in a statement in Ankara that an agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces led by Kurds and Damascus has not changed Türkiye’s commitment to fighting terrorism in Syria and that it is still demanding the dissolution of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units and its disarmament.
Türkiye considers the Syrian Democratic Forces, which controls areas in northeastern Syria, a terrorist group related to the banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party, which took up arms against the Turkish state for decades.
Türkiye has launched many military operations across the border on the group.
