Russian President Vladimir Putin announced today (Thursday) his country’s support for the truce that America proposed in Ukraine, considering that it is a good idea, but asked about the way this truce is implemented, especially since it is required that this lead to a permanent peace and treatment of the root causes of this conflict.
He said during a press conference in the Kremlin with the Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko today: “We support them, but there are some accurate differences,” asking: “How can we ensure that such a situation is not repeated? How will the monitoring process be organized? These are serious questions. ”
Putin thanked US President Donald Trump for his efforts for peace, saying: “We agree with the proposals aimed at ending hostilities, but only those that lead to permanent peace and remove the causes of the crisis.”
He added, “We need to talk about these matters with our American partners, and perhaps contact President Trump,” stressing that any ceasefire agreement in Ukraine must lead to permanent peace and not just a truce in combat actions, and that the path of settlement settlement must address its roots.
He added, “We agree to the proposals aimed at ending the fighting actions, but we start from the principle that this truce must lead to a permanent peace and address the roots of this crisis.”
The Russian President described the monitoring of violations of the ceasefire along the seam, as very complicated, and is likely to use Ukraine to use the temporary firefighting ceasefire, weapons supplies, and in particular in the Corsak province, and it is necessary to determine how to control this matter.
He pointed out that he will determine the next steps on the proposed truce in Ukraine, based on what his army is achieving in terms of expelling Kiev forces from the Russian Kursk region, praising the progress made by his forces in the past days as part of its endeavor to regain control of the entire area of this region
For his part, the Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said: The Ukrainians should have stopped shooting, sitting at the negotiating table for a long time, adding: If Russia has reached an agreement with the United States, this would be a disaster for Europe and Ukraine together.
Lukashenko considered that the pressure on Belarus and Russia is not weakened, although it is clear to everyone, indicating that the restrictions strongly affected those who imposed them.
And he indicated that he discussed the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine with Putin, pointing out that Putin would have to work closely on the Ukrainian issue today and tomorrow, but he did not expect a great thing to happen in the Ukrainian settlement.
The special envoy of US President Steve Witkeov had arrived earlier today in Moscow to discuss the proposed truce.
