This is considered “D-Day” of the “Fique Sabendo!” campaign, which is part of the “Red December” program, a month dedicated to raising awareness about Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), especially HIV.
The target audience is the people most vulnerable to the risk of HIV in the municipality, which includes men who have sex with men, transsexuals, adolescents, adults between 18 and 25 years old, the homeless population, drug users and sex workers. In addition to testing, prevention supplies will be distributed, reinforcing information on combination prevention and HIV diagnosis and treatment.
The campaign also aims to offer timely treatment to all people diagnosed during these days to interrupt the chain of HIV transmission and reduce the morbidity and mortality of AIDS.
It should be noted that, this year, starting December 11, the pre-exposure prophylaxis (PreP) prescription program for STIs will begin in health centers. The municipality has already dispensed prescription medications from public and private services since the beginning of 2024, but to fulfill the prescriptions, the department was waiting for adjustments from the Human Resources sector. This was one of the goals of the Municipal STI, HIV and Viral Hepatitis Program by 2024.
