The Court of Justice of São Paulo ordered the seizure of almost 20 million reais from the bank’s accounts. corinthians, due to a debt with Pixbet, a betting company that sponsored the club in 2023.
The blockade reached the exact value of R$ 19,279,251.28, referring to a debt of R$ 21,460,000.00. The decision, kept confidential until recently, was published by the 43rd Civil Court of the TJ-SP last Wednesday (27). The information was first published by UOL.
The São Paulo Court blocked amounts in five Corinthians accounts, distributed in several financial institutions. Most of the value, R$ 12.4 million, came from the accounts of Caixa Econômica Federal, intended to finance Neo Química Arena. Another 5 million reais were blocked in Itaú and the rest was distributed among Bradesco, Santander and other banks.
Pixbet lawyer Nelson Williams said in a statement that the Corinthians board “avoids meeting its obligations to its creditors,” which he says undermines trust in contractual relationships with the club’s partners.
“The board of directors of Sport Club Corinthians Paulista has used tricks to avoid compliance with its obligations to its creditors, showing a worrying trend of non-compliance not only with signed contracts, but also with legal agreements,” said Nelson Willians.
“This position, whether due to bad faith or inadequate management, compromises trust in contractual relationships. However, we trust in the impartial and efficient performance of the Judiciary, which continues to fulfill its role of ensuring respect for established norms and rights,” added the lawyer.
The seizure of Corinthians accounts occurred due to a debt of more than R$ 44 million, resulting from the termination of the contract with Pixbet. At the beginning of 2024, the club replaced its former sponsor with another company in the betting sector, VaiDeBet.
Although Corinthians and Pixbet negotiated the payment of the debt in installments until 2025, the club would not have fulfilled the agreement, which caused the case to drag on in court. The Parque São Jorge team reported that it does not comment on ongoing legal actions, but the club requested, in the file, the suspension of the seizure of resources deposited in Caixa accounts.
“The amounts blocked in the accounts of Caixa Econômica Federal were subject to fiduciary transfer of a linked account, the balance of which was transferred by the defendant to that financial institution. […] The financial blocks reached an importance that does not correspond to the defendant, so the restriction seems illegal,” wrote Timão, in a petition that will still be analyzed by the Court.
In October, due to a debt owed to businessman Carlos Leite, the São Paulo Court ordered the blocking of R$ 33.4 million from the story of the Corinthians.
This month, the Gaviões da Fiel started “crowdfunding” to settle Timão’s debt with Neo Química Arena. Donations are made through Pix through a specific account opened at Caixa Econômica Federal.
