The insurer MAPFRE, official sponsor of the Libertadores, in collaboration with the South American Football Confederation, will present the MAPFRE Award to the ‘safest player’ during the final of the continental tournament, which will be played today at the Monumental Stadium of Núñez, in Buenos Aires.
The trophy, which will be awarded for the first time since the competition was created, recognizes the player who most stood out in individual aspects of security and confidence in the decisive moments of the match, contributing directly to the result of the match and the success of his team, regardless of his position on the field.
The global president of MAPFRE, Antonio Huertas, will be in charge of presenting the award immediately after the match. The selection of the winner will be in charge of a technical committee made up of three icons of South American football: former goalkeeper Nery Pumpido, former midfielder Clarence Acuña and Oscar Ruggeri, former defender and world champion with Argentina in 1986.
