Vanessa Martins Felix was removed from her position as executive superintendent of the Federal Highway Police (PRF) in the Federal District after a photo, from 2022, in front of the Army Headquarters in Brasilia went viral. The image had an impact after the Federal Police (FP) indict 37 people for the crimes of violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, coup d’état and criminal organization. Vanessa was fired from her position this Friday (11/29).
Vanessa began her career in the Brazilian Air Force (FAB). In 2009, at the age of 22, the Rio native became the corporation’s first female parachutist.

Vanessa’s photo in front of headquarters was published in 2022 on the police officer’s own social media. The image, however, began to circulate this week, after politicians and soldiers were accused of violent abolition of the Democratic State of Law and of a coup d’état.
In the controversial photo, Vanessa appears holding a sign that says: “Our World Cup is at the headquarters”, in reference to the World Cup that will be held in November 2022. In the caption, the PRF writes that the demonstration is about “ arbitrariness”. that is happening in the country” and uses the hashtag #supremoéopovo, in provocation to the decisions of the Supreme Federal Court (STF).

The case was taken to the PRF Superintendency in Mexico City, who investigates the situation and analyzes possible measures to be taken. Vanessa now holds no position of trust in the corporation.
In a note, the PRF reported that it does not take a position on private cases and clarified that appointments and dismissals from positions are “freely designated.”
“The position of executive superintendent is freely appointed and dismissed. Their designation, prior to their respective appointment, goes through a technical feasibility analysis in the internal affairs department of the organization and also in the Civil House, through the Integrated System of Appointments and Consultations – Sinc.
By default, the Federal Highway Police does not comment on private events related to its employees. “Currently, the aforementioned police officer does not hold any position of trust.”
