Truth or myth? Find out if freezing bread helps you lose weight
Information has gone viral on the web that if you freeze bread or other carbohydrate sources, such as rice and toast, you will help the formation of resistant starch, which, in theory, is not absorbed by the body and, therefore, “get less fat.” But is it true that this trick helps you lose weight?
The good news is that freezing bread will give you a great advantage: preserving food and avoiding waste. As for weight loss, for its part, it is better not to get excited: it is not possible to overestimate the power of freezing at this point.
In fact, frozen foods form resistant starch due to the contraction of the network of starch molecules, however, the impact on calories is negligible.
While 100g of white rice has 79 calories, frozen foods will have around 78.5 calories.
More resistant starch may even support gut health, but when it comes to weight loss, it would be too much of a stretch as the process depends on a series of complex adjustments.
If you want to improve the quality of your preparation when eating bread, a really efficient way is to add a source of lean protein or healthy fat, such as shredded chicken fillet, eggs, avocado and others. These foods, by themselves, will help reduce the glycemic index of the bread and, consequently, will also help eliminate those “extra pounds.”
