Quotas buried merit and created more inequality

The excess quotas for blacks, browns and Indians destroyed intelligence in Brazil. Merit gave way to skin color. This explains why the country is losing its best brains. No one competes on equal terms anymore, whether in public competitions or in disputes for political power.

This policy, which the government mistakenly calls affirmative, discriminates not against whites, but against those who were taught from childhood that commitment, knowledge and effort to learn allow them to reach higher flights.

Worse still, it discriminates and opens space for opportunism. In the last two elections, the candidates who were listed as white changed to brown in order to benefit from the quotas and have more resources for the campaigns.

You cannot combat inequality by benefiting some more than others. Either they are all equal and receive the same treatment, as the constitutional text says, or leftist governments must admit that they are breaking the country’s Constitution, generating more inequality.
