The seven-time champion paid tribute to the Brazilian driver, who died 30 years ago
Moment of great emotion in Interlagos, during the São Paulo Formula 1 GP, this Sunday (3). Seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton drove the iconic McLaren MP4/5B, driven by Senna in his second championship in 1990, in tribute to the Brazilian driver, who died 30 years ago.
“Never in a million years did I imagine that one day I would drive an Ayrton Senna car at Interlagos,” said Hamilton, during a press conference. The driver was wearing a white jumpsuit, just like Senna’s, and was wearing a helmet with the colors and flag of Brazil.
The public applauded the moment shouting Ayrton Senna’s name and many could not hold back their tears. Hamilton even raised the Brazilian flag in the final laps of the circuit. After the tribute, he knelt next to the Brazilian driver’s car and, very excited, thanked him for the moment.
