At trial, Ronnie Lessa apologizes to the families of Marielle and Anderson
Ronnie Lessa, confessed murderer of councilor Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, began his testimony this Wednesday (30) at the Court of Justice, in the center of Rio, asking for forgiveness from the families of the victims.
“With absolute sincerity and regret, I would like to apologize to Anderson and Marielle’s families and also to my own. “I know I will never be able to bring people back, but I needed to ask for forgiveness,” he declared.
The former prime minister also added that he is trying to ease his conscience by taking responsibility and revealing those involved in the crime.
Luyara Franco, Marielle’s daughter, was so shocked that she left the plenary session as soon as the testimony began, returning an hour later, still emotional. Ágatha Arnaus, Anderson Gomes’ widow, cried when she heard the defendant claim that the driver was not the intended target.
In a more tense moment, Lessa began to detail his assets, ensuring that they were earned with a lot of work. This statement caused outrage in Marinete Franco, Marielle’s mother.
This Wednesday (30), ten witnesses gave testimony, among them the journalist Fernanda Chaves, who survived the attack, and the Minister of Racial Equality, Anielle Franco, Marielle’s sister. The expectation is that the trial of Ronnie Lessa and Élcio de Queiroz will end this Thursday (31).
