The members of Mancha Alvi Verde (formerly Mancha Verde) will be investigated for civil police and will be criminally responsible for the crimes of homicide, arson, criminal association, bodily injury and promotion of riots, practice or incitement to violence at sporting events.
According to the SSP, the police seized surveillance images and requested examinations from the Legal Medical Institute of the victims to carry out investigations. The incident was sent to the Police Station for the Repression of Crimes of Sports Intolerance (DRADE) to identify and hold those involved responsible, the note states.
HE Public Ministry of São Paulo (MPSP) will also investigate the organized Palmeiras fans, as a criminal faction. “An episode like this is unacceptable and represents a serious affront to public safety and peaceful coexistence in our society. For this reason, this Attorney General’s Office determined that, in addition to the prosecutor Fernando Pinho Chiozzotto, from Mairiporã, there will also be the Special Action Group to Fight Organized Crime. [Gaeco] get into the case,” said Oliveira e Costa.
“There is firm evidence that some organized fans act as true criminal factions, which justifies the intervention of the GAECO,” added the head of the MPSP.
At the time of writing, there were no updates on the investigations. HE Metropolis Seek contact with DRADE to find out if any suspects have already been identified.
Possible fan revenge
The ambush carried out by Palmeiras fans may have been revenge for a similar attack that occurred on September 28, 2022.
On that occasion, the confrontation between Cruzeiro and Palmeiras fans occurred at km 593 of the same Fernão Dias highway, in Minas Gerais. In images published on social networks, Palmeiras could be seen armed with sticks and iron bars. Firecrackers were also used in the confrontation. Some involved in the confusion appeared bloodied.
In greater numbers, Cruzeiro fans defeated several members of the Palmeiras fans, including Jorge Luis, current president of Mancha Verde. (see below).
The Palmeiras fans were heading to Belo Horizonte, where Verdão would play against Atlético-MG on matchday 28 of the Brazilian Championship. The Cruzeiros were traveling to Campinas, where they have a match against Ponte Preta, on matchday 32 of Serie B.
