Favorite to take command of the Senate from 2025, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP) has promised a prominent space for Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) when the current president of the Chamber leaves office.
In negotiations with senators in exchange for support, Alcolumbre has said that he will reserve the presidency of Senate Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ)currently occupied by himself, for Pacheco.
The position would be reserved for Pacheco until he decides his future. Behind the scenes, there is speculation that President Lula could invite the senator from Minas Gerais to take on a government ministry.
By reserving command of the CCJ to Pacheco, Alcolumbre points out that the commission, one of the most coveted by senators, is not open to negotiations. At least for now.
If he assumes the CCJ, Pacheco will repeat the trajectory of Alcolumbre himself. The senator assumed the commission in 2021, shortly after leaving the presidency of the Senate and being succeeded by the parliamentarian from Minas Gerais.
If Pacheco comes to government, the presidency of the CCJ could pass to PL. The party is interested in the vacancy and says that Senator Marcos Rogério (PL-RO) would be the favorite for the position.
