Amid global anticipation and expectations of the possibility of a major breakthrough in the Ukraine war file, US President Donald Trump announced yesterday (Monday) that he will speak with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, today (Tuesday), adding that “we may announce something about Russia and Ukraine.”
Trump spoke to reporters on the presidential plane during his flight from Florida to Washington about the division of some assets between Russia and Ukraine, revealing that lands and power stations are the focus of agreement between Moscow and Kiev. He explained that “a lot of work has been completed during the weekend … We want to see the end of this war.” The US President described the path of negotiations with Russia as “positive”, after Saudi Arabia hosted this month’s high -end talks between two American and Ukrainian delegations. He added, “We want to see if we can end this war. Perhaps we can, and perhaps not, but I think we have a very good opportunity. ”
On the concessions being studied in the ceasefire negotiations, Trump said: “We will talk about the land, we will talk about power stations.” Ukraine this week approved an American proposal for a 30 -day truce in the war, provided that Russia is committed to it. Putin expressed his support for the ceasefire, but stressed the existence of pending issues about the proposal that needed to consult with the Americans.
For his part, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko told the Russian newspaper “Ezvsitia” that any long -term peace treaty on Ukraine should meet Moscow’s demands. He added, “We will demand strict security guarantees part of this agreement.” He revealed that among the guarantees: the neutral situation of Ukraine, and NATO countries refused to accept it in the bloc. Moscow confirmed its conclusive opposition to the deployment of NATO observers in Ukraine.
