
Hurricane “Joud” swept large areas of Mozambique, leaving great destruction in infrastructure and homes, and according to the authority in Mozambique, at least 16 people were killed and about 60 others were injured.
The authorities in Mozambique said today (Sunday) that many of the victims died due to the collapse of the buildings, while others were injured as a result of the fall of debris and flying objects, indicating that the floods accompanying the storm resulted in the displacement of dozens of families whose members were forced to leave their homes in search of a safe shelter.
This is the third hurricane that strikes the country during the past four months, which increases the suffering of the population who has not yet recovered from the effects of previous storms.
The hurricane struck the coastal areas of Mozambique with strong winds and heavy rains, causing homes to collapse and severe damage to roads, bridges and electricity networks, while circulating videos showed the views of destroyed homes, sunken in water and the ruins covered, which reflects the size of the disaster that was populated.

Today, the Mozambique government announced the state of emergency in the most affected areas, while relief teams began searching for missing persons and providing emergency aid to the survivors, stressing that the priority now is to deliver food aid and clean water to the affected people, in addition to reopening the affected roads to facilitate relief operations.
Hurricane “Joud” is the third hurricane that strikes Mozambique in only four months after “Freddy” and “Elian”, which warns of more disasters and puts additional challenges in front of the authorities and population in the country that falls on the southeastern coast of Africa and is considered one of the most vulnerable countries to tropical storms because of its geographical location overlooking the Indian Ocean, especially in light of the continuous warnings of heavy rains.
Humanitarian organizations expressed concern that this catastrophe would exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Mozambique, confirming by the spokesman for the Red Cross that the situation in the affected areas is very critical, and there is an urgent need for medical aid and tents to accommodate the homeless.
