Moroccan security coordination that includes the Royal Gendarmerie and National Security, supported by civil protection personnel, began digging near the border with the occupied city of Ceuta, specifically in the “Arway de Las Bombas” area, in search of a tunnel outlet that was believed to have been used to smuggle hashish between Morocco and Ceuta.
The local Spanish newspaper “Elvaro de Siota” reported that these operations come within the framework of joint investigations with the Spanish authorities as part of what is known as the “Opeación Hades”, which targets drug smuggling networks across the border.
The newspaper published pictures taken from inside the occupied gap showing a group of security elements to search in the aforementioned region, noting that during the past week, the Moroccan teams continued the field survey operations using advanced technologies that include sensors and cameras to limit potential sites for the tunnel exits.
The Moroccan authorities, which “surround their investigations into this file with confidentiality,” began in the past two days to determine the course of the tunnel through accurate measurements, as the first drilling process was conducted in front of a house overlooking the warehouses in the “Tarajal” area.
In a new step, a second drilling operation took place, yesterday, Sunday, confirmed the possibility of the tunnel to be linked to a neighboring cottage, which prompted the civil protection teams, supported by advanced means, to enter the two pits to inspect them accurately.
“Elvaro de Siota” indicated that the Moroccan security services met a few days ago with the Spanish Internal Affairs Unit, in the presence of the Military Consultant Civil Guard in Morocco, to activate cooperation.
The Under -Earth Reception Unit of the Spanish Civil Guard is expected to arrive soon to verify the connection between the two sides, at the request of an official cooperation submitted to the judicial and political levels.
Initial data indicate that the tunnel, which was discovered from the Spanish side earlier this year by the Spanish Civil Guard, may have several exits. The Spanish investigations resulted in the arrest of 14 people, while continuing to search for the rest of the network.
