Ramadan has a special place in the population of the city of Taza and its adjacent regions, where the Tazion celebrates the holy month by preserving a set of established customs and traditions that a father inherits from grandfather.
Tazziyah families are keen to spend the holy month with children and the large family, and their preparations to receive this month begin since the mid -month of Shaban, as they are acquired by all the requirements, basic foodstuffs, and traditional costumes. In this regard, Abdel Wahid Boubaria, a professor at the Multi -disciplinary college in Taza, explained that the Ramadan atmosphere in Taza is launched before the holy month, as families receive this holy month with a special spirituality. He added that, since the middle of the month of Sha`ban, Tazis families have been keen to acquire various food and traditional fashion, especially for children who fast for the first time, to encourage them to perform the obligatory prayer, and a number of mosques are subject to maintenance and cleaning work in order to receive the guests of Rahman in the best of Hilla.
Women are a pivotal part of this preparation, as they meet in homes to prepare traditional salts and sweets, on top of which are “Zita” or “Cel and”, which are counted as a distinctive meal with Tazzi breakfast tables, given the healthy ingredients such as roasted flour, almonds, sesame, peanuts and various spices.
The researcher continued that at the beginning of the holy month, the Tazion is keen to perform the prayers at the time, especially the dinner and Taraweeh prayers, read the Qur’an, and multiply the works of righteousness, including the relationship of the uterus and the exchange of family visits. In turn, local markets are witnessing a tireless movement, as families accept the acquisition of the requirements they need, and many seasonal stores are erected along the streets and alleys, most notably the “market dome”, which is the beating heart of the ancient city commercially, economically, civilized and culturally.
Tazis women are also keen to purchase the white cladding of the small fasting person (jilbab, inspiration and language), and foodstuffs that are used to prepare bread greased with eggs and filled with raisins, almonds and nuts, to give him a gift on this occasion. The traditional costume that is devoted to the girl who fasts for the first time, which has a special celebration, is also acquired, in addition to the acquisition of the crown, which is placed on top of it to celebrate its success in the representation of the inherited authentic social and cultural values.
In this regard, the researcher in the local heritage, Mohamed Al -Hanan, stated that the city of Taza is a living model for the interdependence of customs and traditions with Ramadan spirituality, as it preserves customs that revive popular memory and embody the noble values on which Moroccan society is based. Al -Hanan added that the inhabitants of Taza and the surrounding areas, especially the Prans tribe, maintain Ramadan rituals of a religious, social and heritage nature. The spokesman pointed to the importance of the night of the half of Ramadan, where religious gatherings are held to recite the Qur’an, while the night of the twenty -seventh of Ramadan (Night of Power) is a special occasion that is alive in remembrance and supplication, and women are considered traditional dishes such as couscous with chicken, in an atmosphere of joy and pruning.
He also emphasized the special importance that is dominated by fasting young children, as families are keen to encourage children to fast, by dividing fasting between morning and evening on two different days, to gradually get children to get the children to fully fast. The researcher added that the families are also keen to celebrate their daughters who fast for the first time, by decorating their hands with henna and giving them a greater role in managing home and family relationships. It is, then, is established customs and traditions related to the holy month.
