
An independent international investigation committee at the United Nations reported that Russia committed “crimes against humanity” as part of a systematic attack on civilians during its war in Ukraine, which was manifested in forced disappearances and torture.

The report added that the Russian authorities “committed additional violations and crimes during these long detention.”

The committee also studied an increasing number of incidents related to Russian forces killing or wounding Ukrainian soldiers or surrendering themselves, which constitutes a war crime.
According to the report, “the testimonies of the soldiers fled from the Russian armed forces indicate that there is a policy not to take prisoners but rather kill them instead.”
The report added that both sides committed war crimes by killing or wounding injured soldiers using paths.
The report detailed violations of the Human Rights Law committed by the Ukrainian authorities against people accused of dealing with the enemy.
Russia launched its wide attack on Ukraine in February 2022.
The United Nations Human Rights Council formed an investigation committee, which is its highest level in March of that year to investigate violations and transgressions committed in the conflict.
