Tunisia Leaders from the Ennahda movement believe that the continuation of its symbols with the closure of its headquarters is an extension of a “systematic” policy adopted by the authority in Tunisia against its political opponents of various currents, accusing the authority of employing the judiciary as a tool to liquidate political accounts and silence the voices opposing Tunisian President Qais Saeed.
In light of President Saeed’s rule, observers believe that the authority continues to pursue prominent political figures, especially from the renaissance that was the most prominent political force in the scene after the revolution, as dozens of leaders from the Ennahda movement in prisons, including its president, Rashid Ghannouchi, 83, who faces accusations of terrorism, money laundering and conspiracy against state security.
“This targeting is not only limited to the Renaissance movement, but also includes former ministers, deputies, politicians and two general secretaries for other parties,” says Al -Nahda Al -Shuaibi.
Al -Nahda and other parties took an opponent of President Qais Saeed, due to what it considered a “coup” against the legitimacy he made on July 25, 2021, after announcing the exceptional measures, according to which he closed the parliament and dissolved it later, in addition to the removal of the government of Hisham Al -Mishishi and the dissolution of the Supreme Judicial Council and his grabbing the joints of power with wide powers.
The issue of the post
And last Tuesday, the Criminal Department of the Court of Appeal in Tunisia in what is known as the “post” case in which the leader of the Renaissance and the former Minister of Justice Nur al -Din al -Behairi was tried, and a preliminary sentence was issued against him for 10 years in prison, and the Renaissance movement accuses the authority of trying Al -Buhairi against the background of his opposition to President Qais Saeed.
On that same day, the Criminal Department specialized in terrorism cases at the Court of First Instance in Tunisia, in the file of the leader of the Renaissance Ali Al -Areed, who held the position of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior during the reign of Al -Nahda after the revolution, and he is detained since September 22, 2022 on charges of traveling young people to fight during the revolution in Syria.
This case includes, along with the wide, about 800 people, most of whom are from the Renaissance movement based on a report submitted by Parliament, and the Renaissance movement and other opposition circles question the credibility of the trials, and consider it a blatant political nature.
Regarding the issue of the leader of the Al -Nahda movement, Noureddine Al -Behairi, Al -Shuaibi says that the authority accused him of writing a post on the network to incite it and manage to assault the state’s changing on the pretext that he asked the supporters of the Al -Nahda movement participating in a protest of the opposition front in Al -Manihah area in the capital in 2023.
But in fact, “the authority did not provide any concrete evidence” to the court on the existence of this “alleged post”, according to Al -Shuaibi, who confirms that all the calls launched by the Renaissance movement to protest is of a peaceful nature, and says that “the content of the post according to the authority’s allegations does not condemn Nur al -Din Al -Behairi because the call to participate in a peaceful protest is guaranteed by the law.”
As for the case of the prominent leader of the movement, Ali Al -Areed, Al -Shuaibi says that Al -Atiha was charged with involvement in the travel of Tunisian youth to fight in Syria during the outbreak of the Syrian revolution, which is considered charged and fabricated by power.
The leader of the Renaissance movement explains, denouncing that “this accusation does not fool on anyone, as it is reasonable for Ali al -Arid to be accused in a terrorist case like this, and the fact that when he was the prime minister, he classified the Ansar al -Sharia group in Tunisia, a terrorist organization, and since he was the minister of the interior, he fought against its elements an armed confrontation in the area of Bir Ali bin Khalifa and was threatened with death by them.”
And he affirms that the current authority dominates the judiciary after he made President Said according to the constitution that he drafted in 2022 the judiciary as a job, and not an independent authority, saying, “Today the judiciary is subject to the dominance of political power, and he follows its orientations as they wish, and thus the rulings issued by him are due to political instructions.”
Political narrowing
Regarding the connotations of the continuation of the trial of prominent leaders of the Ennahda movement and its implications for the future of the party and the entire political scene, Al -Shuaibi confirms that the prosecutions and rulings against some personalities and the closure of the headquarters of the Renaissance movement and the Al -Salva Front were cast a shadow of tyranny in the country.
“The Renaissance Movement is the condition of democratic life in Tunisia, and a democratic life cannot be straightened in which any political party is excluded, let alone the greatest political party.”
Although it confirms that the Renaissance movement still has a political presence in the square through its role as an active party in the opposition front or through its bilateral dialogues with other parties in the opposition, he says, “I do not secretly hide that political activity takes place in very difficult circumstances and great security and political pressure and in several threats.”
He adds, “All the political symbols of the Renaissance movement lies in prisons on flimsy charges and even the figures that have not been arrested and are still in the case of release are also prosecuting under the law of terrorism.”
On the other hand, he believes that “there is a kind of mutual weakness” between the opposition and the current authority, explaining that the opposition is experiencing a difficult situation due to arrests, trials and restrictions, but at the same time, “the authority is living in a popular isolation because of its inability to improve the deteriorating conditions and its failure to mobilize the street to support President Saeed.”
“Given the balance of the current weakness between the opposition and the authority, the situation seems more complicated and difficult at the level of expecting the fate of the situation and its development in the future,” he says.
The situation in Tunisia is witnessing a state of rigidity in light of the blockage of the political horizon and the escalation of the crisis between President Saeed and the opposition, which raises concerns about the future of stability in the country.
On the other hand, the supporters of President Saeed are due to the deterioration of the situation in the country to what they call the black decade, that is, the era in which the Renaissance movement ruled with other political parties in the country, considering that the pursuit of many of the Renaissance leaders comes against the background of their accountability for their involvement in issues that threaten national security and in terrorist issues and money laundering.
