Hamas rejected its rejection of the proposal of the American envoy Steve Witkeov, who presented it during the Doha negotiations (Thursday), and to extend the ceasefire in exchange for the release of a number of neighborhood detainees in Gaza and some bodies.
Hamas leader Hossam Badran said today (Friday) that the movement is insisting on implementing the ceasefire agreement in its various stages. He warned that Israel’s departure from what was agreed will return matters to the zero point. He stated that Hamas asked the mediators to compel Israel to the ceasefire agreement and stop violations, and to complete all the items that were approved. He added that the movement welcomes any proposals pushing for the implementation of the ceasefire agreement with Israel in a way that guarantees the rights of the people of Gaza.
During the Doha negotiations, Wittouf presented a proposal to extend the ceasefire in exchange for the release of a number of neighborhood detainees in Gaza and some bodies, in a revised version of what he previously presented.
According to close sources, the fundamental difference in this proposal lies in reducing the number of prisoners who will be released by Hamas during the same period of time stipulated in the previous proposal, as the previous proposal stipulated the release of 10 prisoners in one day, while the new version talked about the launch of 5 neighborhood detainees within 10 days or more, as well as some corpses.
Washington’s Washington’s proposal gave more time to negotiate a coherent and long -term truce, stipulated that the truce continued for 50 days, starting from the first of March to end on April 20.
Two sources familiar with the “Axios” website disclosed that if a long -term ceasefire agreement is reached, “Hamas will be asked to hand over all the remaining prisoners, who are alive and dead, on the last day of the extension of the temporary truce, before the concrete ceasefire comes into effect.”
It is expected that Netanyahu will meet tomorrow evening (Saturday) with his senior aides and security leaders to conduct an evaluation of the situation on the latest developments in the ongoing talks in Doha between a delegation from Hamas, Israel and mediators.
The first phase of the Gaza truce agreement, which lasted 42 days starting from January 19, ended in early March without reaching an agreement on the subsequent stages aimed at ensuring a permanent end of the bloody war that exploded on October 7, 2023.
Hamas is still holding 59 prisoners in Gaza, amid Israeli intelligence weightings that only 22 remains alive, two of them are unknown.
