US and Israeli officials revealed that the United States and Israel have contacted officials in 3 governments in East Africa to discuss the use of their lands as possible destination for the resettlement of the Palestinians who were displaced from the Gaza Strip under President Donald Trump’s proposed plan.
Communications with Sudan, Somalia and the separatist region of Somalia known as “Somalia Land” reflect the determination of the United States and Israel to move forward in the plan that has been condemned by a wide Arab and international condemnation, according to the “Associated Press” agency.
Officials from Sudan stated that they had rejected offers from the United States, while Somalia and Somaliland officials told the Associated Press that they were not aware of any contacts.
Under the Trump plan, the Gaza population of more than two million people will be sent to another place permanently. It has been suggested that the United States acquire the ownership of the sector, supervise and develop a long -term cleaning process as a real estate project.
Since Trump put the idea at a meeting at the White House last month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised her and described it as a “bold vision.”
The Palestinians in Gaza rejected the proposal and rejected the Israeli allegations that departures would be voluntary. The Arab countries have expressed their strong opposition and presented an alternative plan for reconstruction that would leave the Palestinians on their land.
American and Israeli officials who spoke, provided that their identity was not disclosed to discuss a secret diplomatic initiative, communications with Somalia and Somalia, while Americans also affirmed Sudan. They said that the extent of progress made by efforts or at any level was evident.
The separate communication between the United States and Israel began with the three potential destinations last month, days after Trump launching the Gaza plan alongside Netanyahu, according to American officials, who said that Israel was taking the initiative in discussions.
Israel and the United States have a variety of incentives – financial, diplomatic and security – that Israel can offer to these potential partners.
The White House refused to comment on communication efforts. Netanyahu’s office and minister in the Israeli government and close to Netanyahu, Ron Dermer, who leads the post -war Israeli planning, had no comment.
However, the Minister of Finance Bastel Smotrich, who has long been a defendant for what he calls “voluntary” immigration to the Palestinians, pointed out this week that Israel is working to identify the countries that will receive the Palestinians. He also said that Israel is a “very large section of migration” within the Ministry of Defense.
Sudan
The country in North Africa was among the four countries that agreed to normalize diplomatic relations with Israel in 2020.
As part of the agreement, the United States removed the name of Sudan from the list of countries that support terrorism, a step that gave the country the ability to obtain international international loans. However, relations with Israel have never started with Sudan’s indulgence in a civil war between government forces and the paramilitary rapid support group.
The conflict has been characterized by atrocities, including killing and rape ethnic motives, according to the United Nations and human rights groups. The International Criminal Court has achieved alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.
In January, the administration of former US President Joe Biden noted that the Rapid Support Forces are committing a genocide.
It will be difficult for the United States and Israel to persuade the Palestinians to leave Gaza, especially to such a troubled country. But they can provide incentives to the Khartoum government, including mitigating debts, weapons, technology and diplomatic support, according to the agency.
Two Sudanese officials, they spoke, provided that their identity was not disclosed to discuss a sensitive diplomatic issue, that the Trump administration had contacted the government led by the army regarding the acceptance of the Palestinians.
One of them said that the communications started even before Trump’s inauguration of military aid aid against rapid support forces, and help in reconstruction after the war and other incentives.
The two officials announced that the Sudanese government rejected the idea. One of the officials said: “This proposal was rejected immediately. No one opened this again,” said one of the officials.
The army commander, Lieutenant General Abdel -Fattah Al -Burhan, stressed the summit of Arab leaders last week in Cairo that his country “categorically rejects any plan aimed at deporting the Palestinian brothers from their land under any justification or name.”
Somalia Land
The land of Somalia, a region of more than 3 million people in the Horn of Africa, has been separated from Somalia for more than 30 years, but it is not recognized internationally as an independent state. Somalia is the land of Somalia as part of its territory.
The new president of Somalia, Abd al -Rahman Muhammad Abdullah, made international recognition a priority for him.
A US official, involved in these efforts, confirmed that the United States “is conducting a quiet conversation with Somalia’s land on a group of areas that could be beneficial to the United States in exchange for its recognition.”
The ability to recognize the American recognition provides an incentive for Abdullah to retract the region’s solidarity with the Palestinians.
The strategic location of the region, in the waterway of the Gulf of Aden near Yemen, the home of the Houthi group, can make it a valuable ally.
Over the years, the land of Somalia was praised by its relatively stable political environment, which is sharply contradictory to the ongoing conflicts in Somalia amid the deadly attacks launched by the militant youth movement linked to al -Qaeda. Since 1991, Somalia has maintained its government, currency, and security structures. However, it still has one of the lowest income levels in the world.
A Somaliland official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media, said that his government has not been contacted and does not hold talks regarding the reception of the Palestinians.
Somalia
Somalia has always been a strong supporter of the Palestinians, and it has often hosted peaceful protests in its streets in support of them. This country has joined the last Arab summit that rejected the Trump plan and appears to be an unlikely destination for the Palestinians, even if they agreed to move.
“It is difficult to understand the reason for Somalia’s desire to host the Palestinians, given the support of the strong country of Palestinian autonomy, said Sambo Chipokorer, a lawyer and researcher in conflict affairs in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
He added: “The re -lineup is constantly changing, and therefore there may be a hidden agenda in the cause of Somalia’s desire.”
A Somali official, who spoke, said, provided that his identity was not disclosed because he was not authorized to speak to the media, that Somalia was not contacted regarding the reception of Palestinians from Gaza and there were no discussions on this issue.
