Diplomatic sources told the island that the UN Security Council approved yesterday, Thursday, a draft statement that Washington and Moscow jointly condemned strongly condemning the violence in the Syrian Sahel region, and calls on the Syrian authorities to ensure the protection of all civilians and civil infrastructure in the country.
Diplomatic sources added that the statement of the statement on Syria will be formally approved today, Friday, during an open session of the Security Council. The approval came after a closed meeting held by the 15 -member council on Syria last Monday.
The Security Council calls on the statement – to an immediate cessation of all violence and inflammatory activities in Syria, and stresses the importance of the international role in supporting a political transfer process led by Syria.
The statement said that the Security Council welcomes the public condemnation issued by the Syrian authorities for violent incidents, and calls for more measures to prevent their recurrence.
The Security Council also affirmed “its strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of Syria, and calls on all countries to respect these principles and refrain from any work or intervention that would further destabilize Syria’s stability.”
Syrian President Ahmed Al -Shara said that the coast events threatened his mission to unite the country, and pledged to punish those responsible, including his allies if necessary.
Violence erupted on March 6, after an attack carried out by the remnants of the ousted President Bashar al -Assad on the Syrian security forces.
This attack led to a military campaign led by the Syrian forces, in which accusations were charged with killing a number of people from the Alawite sect, to which Assad belongs, by groups accused of being linked to the new government.
