Jewish and Islamic organizations have condemned the use of US President Donald Trump, a “Palestinian” term, in an attempt to insult the highest elected Jewish official in the United States.
In statements to reporters at the Oval Office, yesterday, Wednesday, Trump said that the Democratic Senator of New York Chuck Schumer “has become a Palestinian.” “He was a Jew. He was no longer a Jew, he is Palestinian,” he added.
The veteran Senator is the leader of the minority in the Senate, defending Israel, but expressed his support for a two -state solution in the Israeli -Palestinian conflict, and criticized Israel’s behavior in the war on Gaza.
Criticism continues
Jewish and Islamic organizations criticized Trump’s statements and described them as abusive.
“The president has many powers, but none of them includes determining who is a Jew and who is not. To do so, and the use of (Palestinian) as insulting, two things are lower than the level of any (American president).”
Nihad Awad, CEO of the American -Islamic Relations Council (Kiir), also called on Trump to apologize, adding that his use of a “Palestinian” term as racist insult “is offensive and is not appropriate for his position.”
Haley Swiver, CEO of the American Jewish Democratic Council, also condemned Trump’s statements and described it as “hateful.”
“Since he took office, Trump has strengthened the theories of anti -Semitic conspiracy and attacked our democracy. His speech, agenda, alliance with right -wing extremists is exposing American Jews,” Swiver said on the X platform.
Trump also described Schumer last month as a Palestinian when the president proposed a plan that received widespread criticism of US control of the Gaza Strip and the deportation of the Palestinians outside it. Before last year’s elections, Trump Schumer was accused of “a proud member of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas.”
