The former Brazilian star Ronaldo Nazario, nicknamed “The Phenomenon”, announced his official withdrawal from the race to run for the Brazilian Football Association.
This came in a statement published through his official account on the social networking site “X”, in which he revealed the reasons that led him to take this decision, the most important of which is that he did not obtain sufficient support from the regional federations in his country.
Ronaldo wrote, “After publicly announced the nomination for the presidency of the Brazilian Football Association in the upcoming elections, he officially announced the withdrawal of the candidacy,” Ronaldo wrote.

He explained, “If the majority of the decision, you see that Brazilian football is in Amina’s hands (referring to the current president), then my opinion is no longer important.”
“As I mentioned earlier, my first step was to give more space to clubs in addition to listening to regional federations in order to improve championships and develop sport in each state separately. In my view, the changes would come from this strategic compatibility and common vision,” Ronaldo continued.
He continued, “But at my first communication with the 27 regional federations, 23 of whom closed the door in my face and refused to receive me on the pretext of her consent of the current administration and its support for the re -election of the current president.”
“I couldn’t present my project, share my thoughts, or listen to them as I was hoping. There was no room for dialogue,” Ronaldo added.
“The Federation’s statute stipulates that regional federations possess the largest weight in voting, so it is clear that I cannot run; most local leaders support the current president and this is their right and I respect that, regardless of my personal convictions.”
Ronaldo concluded his statement by saying, “I thank everyone who expressed his interest in my initiative, I am still believing that the path of the development of Brazilian football begins with dialogue, transparency, and unity.”
Ronaldo, 48, the winner of his country in the 2002 World Cup, announced last December his intention to run for the Brazilian Football Association for “to save the country’s football reputation and improve the level of national teams,” according to his opinion.
“I will nominate myself in the upcoming elections, through my projects and my plans, I will work to save the prestige of Brazilian football. I have hundreds of motives to do so, but the most important of them is to restore respect for Brazilian football,” Ronaldo said.
