Baitas: Export Moroccan olive oil to the outside is limited to a specific type

The government spokesman, Mustafa Baitas, considered that “the national agricultural policy puts the issue of olive oil within its priorities,” evoking that “the average production during the past three years, which has known a significant decline in the quantities of production due to climatic factors, amounted to 100 thousand tons.”

In response to a controversy raised by new numbers revealed- recently- the European Commission, about the imports of the European Union from Moroccan olive oil, Baitas told reporters: “Regarding export, I can say that it matters to a certain type of oil, which is known as ‘Extra Vierge’, which is olive oil that has certain ingredients and characteristics,” adding that it “is often the subject of contracts between Morocco and its parties Commercial.

The government spokesman added that “the export of this category of olive oil did not exceed 4600 tons out of 100 thousand tons, while the total export does not exceed 8 thousand tons”, with “keeping pace with all of this with basic procedures”, as he put it.

Baytas, during the weekly press conference that followed the convening of a government council, today, Thursday, he summoned the “procedures for codifying export, with the opening and encouragement of import at the same time to ensure the supply of the national market”, stating that “the government did not deal with the issue of olive oil alone with this policy, but rather dealt with many productive materials that were known to be a scarcity of production to ensure that the national market is sufficiently vated.”
