Israel bombed an office of the Islamic Jihad movement in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Thursday, while the Al -Jazeera correspondent reported that the office was not one of the members of the movement, and that the shelling resulted in civilian casualties.
For its part, the Syrian News Agency (SANA) reported that 3 people were wounded, including an elderly woman, who was seriously injured, as a result of “an Israeli aggression that targeted one of the buildings in a democratic project in Damascus.”
The agency quoted the civil defense official in Damascus and its countryside, Hassan Al -Hasan, as saying that the targeting caused great damage to a residential building, in addition to the damage of two partially adjacent buildings and the outbreak of a fire in the place was extinguished later.
On the other hand, the Israeli army said, in a statement, that its fighters “attacked under the direction of the northern leadership and the intelligence branch as the headquarters of the Islamic Jihad in the Damascus region, the organization was planning and carrying out hostile operations.”
He added that “hostile organizations will not be allowed to concentrate in Syrian territory and work against the State of Israel, and will work strongly against any such facility.”

Katz threatens Sharia
In turn, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz said in a statement that “wherever a terrorist activity is prepared against Israel, the Golan Islamic extremist leader will find air force planes flying in the sky and attack hostile targets,” referring to Syrian President Ahmed Al -Shara.
The Al -Jazeera correspondent quoted sources in Damascus that the Islamic Jihad Movement office located in the Tararas area in the Damir neighborhood was directly injured, but none of the members of the movement was in it.
The sources pointed out that the injuries occurred among the civilians who were in the building.
The raid caused violent explosions, and the Israeli fighters did not leave the sky of Damascus after the attack and continued to carry out air flights in the area.
Al -Jazeera correspondent indicated that the authorities in Damascus did not reveal the identity of the personality that Israel may have tried to target in this attack.
Prior
Earlier, the Israeli Channel 12 said that the Israeli army carried out – at night – an operation against a cell belonging to the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in southern Syria.
The channel added that there were “fears that the group would plan to launch an attack on Israeli settlements in the Golan.”
The new Syrian authorities have repeatedly called to stop the Israeli attacks and the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Syrian territories.
Since 1967, Israel has occupied most of the Syrian Golan Heights, and took advantage of the overthrow of Bashar al -Assad and expanded its occupation, including the buffer zone, and destroyed mechanisms, equipment and ammunition for the Syrian army through hundreds of air strikes.
