Former Harvey Winstine producer, imprisoned for rape, asked a judge in New York, on Wednesday, that his new trial will be approached on charges of sexual assault, scheduled in mid -April from a “new perspective”.
The former producer who dominated Hollywood for decades is scheduled to be re -tried after the New York Court of Appeal canceled a 23 -year prison sentence issued against him in 2020, on charges of raping actress Jessica Man, and sexual assault on production assistance Mimi Haley last April.
The former President of the 72 -year -old Miramax studios, who suffer from leukemia and sitting in the Reacher Island prison in New York, on Wednesday, arrived in a wheelchair to a procedural hearing before the New York Criminal Court, according to Agence France -Presse correspondent.
Winstine did not want to comment on himself, but he asked through his lawyer Jennifer Bonjin to be seen from the case from a “new perspective”.
Judge Curtis Farper revealed during the session that the choice of jury members is scheduled to start on April 15, before the trial reached the essence of the issue on the twenty -second of the same month. He added: “Everything will be reviewed again.”
“We can take the (previous trial) record, as well as all the decisions of the judge, and we will throw them in the trash.” He continued: “What happened (sexual assaults attributed to Winstein) was in fact relations with mutual consent, and therefore there are no victims.”
The Public Prosecution, which intends to summon about 25 people to give certificates, pointed out that the procedures may take more than a month.
The new trial was originally scheduled to start last November, but before the date, Manhattan was accused of Winstein, with another assumed sexual assault dating back to the spring of 2006, a charge of paying his innocence from it and requested a separate trial on it.
Despite his illness and the abolition of the first ruling, the former producer is still imprisoned, and in circumstances he considered more like what was happening in the “Middle Ages”, following the ruling against the Los Angeles Court in 2023, with 16 years imprisonment for other rape and other sexual assaults.
The accusations against the former star maker in 2017 caused a global shock to the outbreak of “Mi To” movement. More than 80 women accused him of harassment, sexual assault, or rape.
