The chief of staff of the new Israeli occupation army, Eyal Zamir, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is in many positions, including the war of extermination on the Gaza Strip or Israeli investigations regarding the failure of October 7, 2023, as well as appointments and other changes in the army that he started from the first day to receive his position a few days ago.
Zamir turns decisions and positions taken by his predecessor Herzi Halevi, such as his approval of the occupation army assumed the task of distributing humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, and his lack of commitment to the establishment of an official investigation committee, to identify his positions with the political level, knowing that the failure to form an official investigation committee can save Netanyahu and his government to take responsibility for the failure of the seventh of October.
The Hebrew Channel 12 reported on its website, today, Thursday, that Zamir announced that he would make a major change related to the essence of one of the differences between the political and military level during the past year and a half, which is the distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza, so that he told the political level that he would allow the distribution of humanitarian aid by the army or that the army be part of the department that facilitates this.
Former Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevi, was strongly opposed to the participation of the occupation army in distributing humanitarian aid that arrives in Gaza, to fear him, which may be considered as a military ruling or a prelude to military rule, and his position was with absolute support by former Security Minister Joav Gallant. The Hebrew Channel indicated that, according to the current plan, the company that distributes humanitarian aid will be an American company, and if the matter depends on the army and Zameer, assistance will be provided to implement the mission, and even if the American company does not accomplish its mission, it will be implemented by the army itself.
For its part, the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz reported today that Zamir agreed to transfer sensitive materials related to the failure of the seventh of October to the state observer, Matthew Ingman. His predecessor, Herzi Halevi, was opposed to the transfer of these materials, explaining that the criticism directed at the Israeli army should take place only after the war ended. Last year, tensions prevailed between Halevi and the state observer on this issue. In closed talks, Hellifi said that the issues that England wants to examine must take place through an official investigation committee, a committee that the government refuses to form. During a ceremony, Zamir assumed his post, Helfi stated that this committee was “necessary and vital.”
Sources spoke with the new chief of staff, according to the newspaper, said that Zamir “is not committed to an official investigation committee. He is reluctant to the matter and it seems that from his point of view, the examination can be limited to the state observer.” In recent days, England held several talks with Zamir, and they agreed, among other things, to study the behavior of the army before October 7, and to investigate the work of the Military Intelligence Division, the Operations Division, and the leadership of the southern region in the army.
Zamir’s cooperation with the state observer is joining his decision to re -investigate the army in the failures that led to the Hamas attack, which sparked criticism inside the army. Senior officials in the security establishment claim that this decision will reduce pressure on examining the role of the political level in failure. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who opposes the formation of an official investigation committee, exerted pressure on Helfi and the Shin Bur President Ronin Bar to cooperate with the state observer, who hinted at Israeli circles that he is close to him.
In a statement issued by his office last week against the results of the Shin Bet investigation of the organization’s performance on the seventh of October and the years before the Hamas attack, Netanyahu said: “Instead of cooperating with the state observer, Shin Bet President Ronin Bar provides an investigation that does not answer any question.” The aforementioned investigation indicated the failure of the Shin Bet, but also held responsibility for the political level and the army.
