The current “Thursday – Friday night” witnesses a complete eclipse of the moon that is a fully viewed from the two American continents while it will not be visible from the continent of Asia and East Africa, according to the “WAM” agency.
Engineer Mohamed Shawkat Awda, director of the International Astronomy Center, said that watching the eclipse will start from West Africa: Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and West Libya.
The moon will start entering into a semi -shadow area at 03:57 GMT on Friday, March 14th, to start entering the shadow area at 05:10 am.
The entry of the moon is complete in the shadow area, the total eclipse begins at 06:26 am, and the eclipse reaches its peak at 06:59 am, then the moon begins out of the shadow area, and the total eclipse ends at 07:31 am.
The moon exit from the shadow area will be complete at 08:48 am, with the eclipse ending completely at 10:00 am.
The eclipse occurs when the moon is in the full moon, where the moon shines from the east at the sunset and remains visible in the sky until it sets on the west at the time of sunrise and during the eclipse the sun, earth and moon will be on one straight where the Earth is located in the middle, which causes the moon to enter under the earth and thus block the sunlight from it and lead to the complete disappearance of the moon in theory.
Although the moon disappears in theory during the total eclipse, it does not completely disappear because the sun’s rays break from the edges of the Earth thanks to the atmosphere and these broken rays are reflected towards the moon, which makes it acquire bright colors such as yellow, orange or red.
The color of the moon at this moment is an indication of the purity of the Earth’s atmosphere, as the increase in pollution in the atmosphere leads to reducing the broken rays, which makes the color of the moon tend to dark red or brown.
Odeh said: Initially, the observer will not notice any change in the lunar shine during the first “45” minutes from the beginning of the eclipse where the moon is in the early stages within the semi -shadow area and the Earth has not blocked enough sunlight to be noticeable with the naked eye and with the progress of the eclipse the observatory can notice the lighter of the moon lighting from the eastern side of its disk -left disk, and when the moon enters the shade area, the shade appears to the ground Disc. “
