The Nador region is witnessing a worrying increase in the phenomenon of minors clinging to large trucks and buses, a phenomenon that has become anxious drivers and puts them in the face of legal risks.
After the phenomenon of clinging to trucks in the region was mainly related to clandestine immigration, as minors are trying to reach the occupied Melilla by infiltrating the trucks heading to the occupied gap or Bani Ansar, the viewer today includes students clinging to public transport buses or trucks inside the city, whether to move between neighborhoods or for entertainment.
Hespress examined on several occasions in several cases in which truck drivers were forced to stop repeatedly after alerting them from light car drivers with the presence of a clinging minor, to expel him and then complete his path, in a scene that shows the spread of the phenomenon and turned it into a daily behavior of dozens of minors.
Drivers express, according to statements drawn by Hespress, their increasing concern about this phenomenon, as they fear the fall of minors under the wheels of their trucks, which may lead to their death or serious injuries, stressing that this scenario may hold them a heavy legal responsibility, especially in light of the difficulty of proving how the minor was exposed to the accident, which leaves them without adequate protection.
It should be noted that in the past years, the province of Nador witnessed incidents described as “dangerous” linked to this phenomenon, including the death of a minor on March 29, 2023 on the coastal road in the Bani Bufor group after he ran over a truck for international transport after his fall, and before that a minor was subjected to the amputation of the hand after falling from a truck in the center of the city of Nador; Another was suffering from injuries at the face and head level at the end of last February after falling from a large truck between the cities of Hassi Berkane and Zayo.
