Today, Thursday, the Russian news agency TASS reported, quoting Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov that the Russian operation to expel the Ukrainian forces from the Kursk region, western Russia, entered its last stage, after a visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin to the region for the first time since the Ukrainian forces took control of parts of it.
In addition, Russia announced on Thursday that its air defenses shot down 77 Ukrainian aircraft over the night over different areas of its territory. The Ministry of Defense stated in a statement that 30 marches were dropped and destroyed over the Breansk region (west), on the border with Ukraine, and 25 marches over Kaloa, and more marches were intercepted over the Corsec, Fournege, Rostov and Bulorod regions.
This attack took place in the marches two days after Russia had intercepted 337 marches, including more than 90 over the Moscow region, in the “largest attack on hostile marches” on the capital, according to Moscow mayor Sergey Sobianin. On the other hand, several Ukrainian cities were attacked, on Thursday morning, killing a 42 -year -old woman in Jesson, according to the head of the military administration in the region, Roman Marousko. The authorities in Kyiv and Denipoproprovsk also reported early Thursday morning.
Yesterday, Putin visited the Russian forces in the Kursk region in the west of the country in a sudden way wearing a military uniform, as it ordered the forces to continue their rapid progress and restore the rest of the region from the Ukrainian forces.
Putin’s visit came after Washington asked him to consider the 30 -day ceasefire proposal, which is supported by Ukraine, and after Russian forces regained more lands in Korsk, forcing the Ukrainian forces to retreat and abandon the town of Soda. Ukraine had detonated one of the largest surprises in the war on August 6, 2024 by storming the borders and seizing a segment of Russian territory, which strengthened the morale of the Ukrainians and gave Kiev a possible negotiation paper.
However, after clinging to more than seven months in the region, which gradually took over the Russian forces, Ukraine witnessed a sharp deterioration in its position in Korsk during the past few days after cutting its main supply lines. Putin explained that he is considering creating a new buffer zone within the Ukrainian area of Sumi, adjacent to the Corsak, to ward off any possible Ukrainian incursions in the future.
