
The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture confirmed that the Kingdom’s production of tomatoes reached more than 691.875 thousand tons during the year 2023, achieving a self -sufficiency rate of 76 %, which reflects the great development in the agricultural sector, and its ability to meet the local need.
She explained during the campaign “Our trip from our land” that the amount of tomato production in exposed farms exceeded 392.294 tons, while the amount of production in greenhouses exceeded 299,581 tons; This reflects its continuous efforts in developing the vegetables sector and meeting the increasing demand during the month of Ramadan, which contributes to supporting food security in the Kingdom.
The Ministry urged farmers to adopt modern agricultural methods, in a way that contributes to improving the quality of production and increasing its efficiency, by supporting them and encouraging the use of advanced technologies, such as greenhouses and hydroponics, which contribute to raising productivity and reducing water consumption, in a way that enhances agricultural sustainability, and supports food security in the Kingdom.
She called on consumers to rely on the local product as part of the campaign she launched during the month of Ramadan, with its high quality and food value, noting the importance of reducing food waste with the increase in consumption rates in the holy month.
