Liverpool captain of the English Premier League, Dutch defender Virgil van Dyck, said he had no idea if he would remain at the Anfield stadium after this season.
The 33 -year -old Van Dyck contract expires at the end of the current season, without reaching a new agreement with “Reds”, which is at the top of the Premier League with 70 points, 15 points ahead of Arsenal.
At a time when the two parties are talking, the Dutch team’s defense has crossed its desire to extend its contract with Liverpool. But pending a final agreement to conclude a new contract, Van Dyck acknowledged that it does not guarantee the wearing of the “Reds” shirt with the start of next season.
After his team’s exit against Paris Saint-Germain, he said on the penalty shootout in the final price of the Champions League (1-1 draw in the total of the two games): “I still do not know yet. Truthfully.”
He added: “At the present time, I do not even know what will happen next year. If anyone claims that he knows, he is lying.”
He continued: “Everyone knows that we are having conversations behind the scenes, but that’s all the matter.”
Besides his superiority in the “Premier League”, Liverpool is facing a difficult confrontation against Newcastle in the League Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, while Van Dyck insists on ensuring the end of an unpublished season for his team, instead of concern about the future.
He added, “It is not a comment. Nothing is suspended … there are 10 remaining matches and this is my full focus. If there is news, you will know it … so I don’t know.”
Although he received a severe blow by leaving the mother continental competition, Van Dyck trusts Liverpool’s ability to quickly overcome his continental disappointment.
“We always have to learn from difficult moments. This is life. This is the life of any human being, and we are also the ones who play football.”
He concluded: “We could have done better, but I am proud of the performance that we did in general. We have to feel disappointed, but if we show this fighting spirit in Wembley with our fans, I am optimistic …”.
