In the city of Al -Khobar and on the banks of the Arabian Gulf beach, one of the oldest neighborhoods of Al -Khobar, which is previously called the “Al -Sabikha” neighborhood, which witnessed the establishment of the first emirate in Al -Khobar in 1359 AH, is the name of the neighborhood formerly due to the large number of “Al -Sabkha”, as a result of excess salinity due to sea water.
The name of the Al -Sabikha neighborhood was changed previously after the passage of years to the southern Al -Khobar neighborhood, and according to one of the residents of the neighborhood, Adnan Al -Zureik, the neighborhood is one of the oldest neighborhoods of Khobar, as well as one of the oldest neighborhoods in the eastern region, and Al -Zureik adds that the neighborhood has many government departments that are still operating to this day, perhaps the most important of them is the province of Khobar and the police and many schools of boys and girls.
Al -Zureik indicated that the former Al -Sabikha neighborhood or the southern neighborhood of Al -Khobar is a small neighborhood compared to the new neighborhoods in the governorate currently as a result of the increase in the population, which is located in the north of Al -Khobar Governorate, and borders it north Popular as well as modern markets.
It is noteworthy that six years ago, a group of “graffiti” artists contributed to beautifying the popular “Al -Sabikha” neighborhood in Al -Khobar, as part of the “Eastern Art” initiative organized by the Eastern Region Council for social responsibility, in cooperation with the municipality Al -Basri in the popular neighborhoods and to give these neighborhoods aesthetic touches, in addition to taking advantage of the talents and energies of young people, through drawing on homes and beautifying them after taking permission from their owners.
