In 1985 he was a messenger at the forefront of anti -apartheid activities, but his political activity led to his arrest for a period of three months, then he was placed in house arrest. In 1987, he was arrested again and was imprisoned for 13 months. During his arrest, Nelson Mandela met for the first time.

In 1984, he took the position of National Secretary of the “Nidaa Islam” organization and remained in this position until 1994. South African President Jacob Zuma Ibrahim Rasoul appointed Ambassador to South Africa to the United States between 2010 and 2015.
After a while he was appointed in the same position again, but in March 2025, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the expulsion of Ambassador Rasul, accusing him of “hating the United States and its president” Donald Trump.

Prizes and medals

The Kaiser Foundation awarded him the Nelson Mandela Award for Health and Human Rights in 1998.
