The decision of the Tunisian club coach, David Betoni, to exclude three players from the team’s list before confronting the Tunisian stadium, a wave of criticism, as the main reason was their adherence to fasting during the day in Ramadan.
Hours before the start of the match within the 25th stage of the Tunisian League, Betone asked its players to break the fast due to the timing of the match that coincided with the hours of fasting, as the confrontation would be launched at two o’clock in the afternoon local time. However, the trio of Hamdi Al -Ubaidi, Ghaith Al -Saghir, and the Algerian Abdel -Malik Qalash insisted on fasting, which prompted the coach to make the decision to exclude them.
Despite the attempts of the three players to persuade the coach to be able to perform a good performance despite fasting, Betoni insisted on his position and kept the decision to exclude.
The coach’s decision blew up many harsh criticisms, as many of the Tunisian League followers launched a sharp attack on team officials. Many demanded that the players be free to perform the obligatory fasting according to their religious beliefs.
Despite the controversy that accompanied the decision, the African club managed to achieve an exciting victory on the Tunisian stadium 1-0, to climb to third place with 50 points, only three points from the Trainers Esperance and the Monastiri Union, which have 53 points.
